A wire removable retainer is an orthodontic appliance used to maintain teeth in their corrected position after braces or aligners. It consists of a thin metal wire (usually stainless steel) that runs across the front teeth, connected to an acrylic or plastic base that sits on the roof of the mouth (for the upper jaw) or along the inside of the lower teeth.
