Discover the authentic flavor of Peperoni Sigaretta Biondo Lombardo, a mild Italian chili pepper variety that’s perfect for adding a hint of spice to your dishes.
The Peperoni Sigaretta Biondo: an old type of chili
This pepperoncino forms slightly spiral-shaped, longer pods that are initially a delicate light green and then gradually turn red to violet. The approximately 7cm long fruits have a medium level of spiciness and can still be harvested green after about 10 weeks – then they are particularly crunchy!
This chili is particularly common in Sicily and is also very popular as an ornamental plant because it can live for several years. In sufficiently large plant pots and containers, this variety can also be cultivated on the terrace or balcony.
The sweet, aromatic scent also conjures up a touch of the Mediterranean in your home!
Aromatic antipasti with pepperoni
The Lombardo pods can be eaten fresh, for example in conjunction with salads or with artichokes, fennel and cabbage. The long chilies are also particularly good for antipasti, stuffed or grilled.
The fruits can also be marinated in oil. It is best to use the red, fully ripe fruits – they are a little sweeter than when they are green.
Versatile Use: These peppers are incredibly versatile and can be enjoyed fresh, pickled, or stuffed with cheese and grilled. They are a staple in Mediterranean salads, antipasti, and as a zesty snack. Don’t forget to add one or two Peperoncini to your spicy pizza or pasta sauce for an authentic Italian kick.
